The reality is that MSU was the best team in the Big Ten in '78 and were co-champs. They didn't go because they were on a ridiculously disproportionate probation. That came about because Woody was sore he lost to MSU in '74. MSU smoked Michigan in Ann Arbor in '78. OSU was fortunate the schedule makers didn't pit them against MSU because their passing game would have romped Woody, which would have been very, very sweet.

I was at this game

I got to go to game 4 at Dodger Stadium, Koufax vs. Whitey Ford. We sat up in the 3rd deck behind home plate. I saw Mantle hit a homerun half way up the left field pavilion and Frank Howard become the first player to hit a homerun into the second deck at Dodger Stadium. My Dodgers swept the Yankees by only using 4 pitchers. Koufax had 2 complete game wins, Don Drysdale got a complete game win and Johnny Podres pitched won game 2 with 8-2/3 innings and Ed Roebuck pitched 1-1/3 inning. I still have to ticket stub and the program.

Are Mike Aulby and Steve Cook related in some way? The announcers only mentioned it about 200 times, but maybe they weren't being serious.

Butch Soper was always one of my fave bowlers. Seemed like a cool character, wasn't the biggest or strongest and didn't crank the piss out of the ball, but won with what he had...guts and smarts. Salute!

Ive been a Petriglia fan since as far back as i can remember, 69’ i recon.My next door neighbor was a then 12 year old to my 6 years old in 69’ and he was tall, lanky, same haircut, same glasses, same lower lip, looked JUST LIKE Mr. Petriglia, same demeanor too. He was like an older brother to me, taught me so much. Every time i see Mr. Petriglia i think of him

Two thoughts: I don't know if Ara had planned on retiring before the '74 season began. I sense this game may have been the tipping point for him as the pressure to win at ND was immense. Like Leahy, Ara left after ten years to maintain his sanity. Too bad Coach Hayes didn't win the national title in '75 by losing to UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Had the Buckeyes won, I think Woody would have retired and gone into the broadcast booth full time. Then that terrible ending in '78 wouldn't have happened. 😮 🏉

Petraglia had a beautiful, elegant style. I remember as teenager watching the pro bowlers tour on TV in the 1970's. Chris and Nelson were and still are the best commentator duo the PBA has ever had.

Sorry I grew up in LA love ❤️ the dodgers but I felt cheated ther can only be 1 dodgers that's Brooklyn and only 1 stadium that's ebbits

One of the greatest human beings to grace the feld of baseball as a white person I'm proud to ware Mr Robinson Brooklyn dodgers jersey number 42 decorat my corvette with his name and number along with Roy Campanella number 39 I grew up in the 1960s I've been a dodgers fan every since I got see some of the greatest dodger players like Willie Davis and all grates but Robinson wow a great American hero even served his country and didn't think twice when I watched the movie 42 I became very emotional to think American can treat a fellow American like that and I'm not week because I feel that way Mr Robinson is so awesome grate guy I just wish I could of seen him in 1955 world series wow wow 😀 ❤❤

I lived in Maryland then and was at this show. Low scores.

I remember this day ever so clearly. My dad was employed at this plant for over 22 years. The layoff and everything after that was devastating for my family, but we recovered my dad commuted from Pomona to Van Nuys until that plant closed. Watching this video makes it feel like it happened yesterday. My father passed in 2001 and every time I pass the Firestone exit off the 710 freeway it breaks my heart. Just as it broke his on that day.

Like or dislike, Marshall Holman is not only VERY PREPARED & AS A RESULT VERY CONFIDENT, he certainly tries to remain realistically upbeat about his chances of winning ANY given tournament. I understand that winning is never easy against the greatest bowlers in the world but Marshall has such a great mental game to go along with his physical game that one he gets lined up, he's extremely tough to win against. Marshall stated in a Bowlers Journal Annual issue that his ball roll & speed are perhaps his greatest physical attributes. Nelson "Bo" Burton once stated on a telecast that Holman: "in terms of armswing, approach, ability and delivery; the best I've ever seen. Just ask Burton about the 16-week exhibition that he & Holman bowled where "Marshall whipped me into shape". His peers call him "magnificent Marshall". He has definitely earned that praise. AND. Off the lanes, Marshall Holman is truly one of the nicest and kindest guys that a person can meet. A true gentleman. He's even generous. Colorful antics too which are good for the sport of bowling. Holman represents the PBA and bowling very, very well.
